PVM Student Halie recording original song

Pleasant Valley Music guitar/voice student Halie came to her lesson last week with a brand new original song she composed. So we decided we’d spend the next couple of lessons making a recording of it right here in our Squirty Records Studios. Here’s a picture:

The Fairfield School Song

Well, it’s out. I finished the Fairfield School Song for Ms. Ryan and she suggested we sell copies to family and friends, etc.. So Jenny did a cover and we’ve got them available for sale in the store.

The CD contains three versions: an instrumental, one with vocal guide, and a special fun extra version with “Lefty”. Here’s a clip with the vocal guide.

I guess this is the most important recording I’ve ever done, since I got to record my sons.

Butch Waller recording at Squirty Records

You may be aware that the great High Country has been here at Squirty recording tracks for their forthcoming recording. Matt’s just as excited as can be, of course. You may remember he got to sit in with the band at the celebration of their (and, coincidentally, his) 40th at the Freight last year.

What’s more, Pleasant Valley’s own Jenny Lynn Williams is photographing the band for Jim’s cover.

And as if that wasn’t enough already, Butch and his HC boys have agreed to release “Perfect Companions” on the Squirty label! Welcome to the family High Country!

The plan is to get this one done by year’s end so the HC boys can release it at their annual NYE celebration at the Freight. We’ll keep you up to-date  right here. (As Keith would say, “stay tuned”) …

Pleasant Valley Boys New Release

Pleasant Valley Boys new release

Pleasant Valley Boys 78

It’s here! PVM artists Matt & George and Their Pleasant Valley Boys are releasing their first recording, on the Squirty Records label.

A propros of their style, the Boys chose to release “Heavy Traffic Ahead” (backed with “I Hear a Sweet Voice Calling”) on 10” vinyl, at 78 revolutions per minute!

The songs were even recorded the old fashioned way, with the entire band performing simultaneously in one room (no overdubs or fixes) into a 1939 RCA-44 ribbon microphone.

The official release took place recently at a performance of the Pleasant Valley Boys on the “Vern’s” stage at the biggest bluegrass festival in the west, the California Bluegrass Association’s Fathers Day Festival, to a overwhelmingly positive response.

And DJs worldwide are “eating this up”  “You folks are doing it the way I like it.” Jim Beaver, WHUS

The 78’s are available from PleasantValleyMusic.com or by calling the band’s label, Squirty Records, at (530) 400-3872.

Pleasant Valley Music Signs Natural Drift

Good news! Placerville’s own Natural Drift has signed with Pleasant Valley Music and their new recording, She Planted the Evidence On Me, has JUST come out on Squirty Records! Of course, PVM’s good buddy George Goodell plays banjo with the ‘Drifters’, and the good folks in the group have been friends with us for years. So it feels right.

Here’s a sound clip for your listening pleasure.

This news comes at an especially good time, as the “Drifters” have not only just released their debut recording, but they were also chosen from scores of good California bands as a California Showcase act at the California Bluegrass Association’s Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley, CA, which takes place June 12-15 2008. Congratulations to the hot new band in town, Natural Drift!
